 Saxophonist extraordinaire Bob Mintzer is a twenty year member of the Grammy award winning Yellowjackets who also leads a Grammy winning Big Band, travels with his own Quartet, and plays with numerous bands globally. This Weekend, Mintzer is performing with his organ trio featuring Dan Trudell on the Hammond B3 organ, and Joel Spenser on drums at the Green Mill in CHicago.

A respected educator, Bob is the recipient of the Buzz McCoy endowed chair of jazz studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Based in Los Angeles, Bob continues to conduct clinics and workshops worldwide. He has also written nearly twenty books which are an important part of the curriculum of Jazz education worldwide.

Bob writes for orchestra, concert band and big band, with over two hundred charts to his credit. His big band music is performed by groups all over the planet. Bob honed his big band writing and playing skills in the bands of Tito Puente, Buddy Rich and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis.

He has also written works for the National Symphony Orchestra, Metropole Orchestra of the Netherlands. WDR Big band in Cologne, HR Big Band in Frankfurt, and was commissioned to write a piece for concert band and tenor sax ("Go") by a consortium of 50 universities.

As an instrumentalist Bob has worked with Art Blakey, Jaco Pastorius, Sam Jones, Randy Brecker, Gil Evans, the Yellowjackets, GRP All Star Big Band, Mike Manieri, and The New York Philharmonic, to name a few. He has done session work for James Taylor, Steve Winwood, Queen, Donald Fagan, Milton Nascimento, and countless others.

Dan Trudell has performed in a wide range of venues ranging from his funk / jam group the B3 Bombers featuring the original "funky drummer" from James Brown fame, Clyde Stubblefield, to having been featured as a Hammond Organ soloist with big band. His organ / piano trios are in constant demand.  His organ style is greatly influenced by the greats who came before him such as Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson, and Brother Jack McDuff. Dan resides and performs in the Chicago area and has toured and performed throughout the world.

Dan Trudell has been voted "a rising star" by Downbeat Magazine and has recently toured with Matt Wilson's "Arts and Crafts" quartet featuring Terrell Stafford and Dennis Irwin in Italy. Dan's group the B3 Bombers was featured on the main stage of the 2007 Chicago Jazz Festival. Dan holds the piano chair in the Chicago Jazz Orchestra and has performed as a sideman with Aretha Franklin, Kenny Burrell, Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Buddy DeFranco, Roy Hargrove, Jeff Hamilton, Kurt Elling, Anne Hampton Calloway, Joe Williams, Jimmy Heath, Doug Lawrence, Jerry Weldon, Jim Rotondi, and Eric Alexander among others.

As a professional drummer, Joel Spencer has performed with a number of internationally known jazz artists in Chicago and throughout the world. These appearances have included such artists as Weather Report alumnus Wayne Shorter, David Liebman, Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, Barney Kessel, Clark Terry, Michael Feinstein, Cissy Houston, the Red Rodney Quintet, Joe Williams, Scott Hamilton, John Campbell, Dorothy Donegan, the Count Basie Band, Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, Junior Mance, Phil Woods, Wynton Marsalis, Benny Golson, and pianist/conductor Daniel Barenboim of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

In 1991 Joel Spencer recorded several pieces for the movie soundtrack In a League of Their Own. In 1992 the soundtrack for this movie was eventually released on Columbia Records. In 1997, The Brighter Side: The Joel Spencer/ Kelly Sill Quartet featuring Chris Potter and Garry Dial, was released on Jazz Alliance Records. The recording has received radio play and critical acclaim throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. 1997 brought the release of the soundtrack for the MGM motion picture Hoodlum, for which Spencer provided all of the drum tracks. In 2005, he finished recording the soundtrack for the United Artists motion picture, Unconditional Love. 1999 brought the release of two additional recordings: Interior Window- Joel Spencer & Mike Kocour (Lakeside Jazz of Chicago Records), which was nominated for “Best Jazz CD of 1999” by The Chicago Music Awards.
