“She can cover anything from Chaka Kahn to Cole Porter with equal authority, exhibiting star quality and drive!" -- Jon Bream (Minneapolis Star Tribune) Patty Peterson©Andrea Canter This Saturday night, one of the most widely acclaimed of local vocalists, Patty Peterson, brings her band of “Friends” to the Dakota on Saturday, September 15th. Joining Patty will be Donnie LeMarca, Billy Franze, brothers Paul and Ricky Peterson, and special friend Rocky Robbins.Daughter of local jazz legend Jeanne Arland Peterson, Patty grew up surrounded by music and began singing in concerts as a youngster. She has received the Minnesota Music Award 7 times for Best Female Vocalist and Best Group, and for "Best Jazz Recording" for her debut CD, The More I See You. In addition to her singing career, she has worked as an actress, print ad model, and national anthem singer, and, for seven straight years, was the number one female radio personality on WCCO radio. Name a local jazz venue or concert hall, and Patty has performed there, including frequent appearances at the Dakota, Artists Quarter, School II Bistro, Crooked Pint Ale House, Old Log Theater, Bloomington Center for the Arts and more; she’s also performed at venues around the country including the Vine Street Bar in Hollywood and Jazz Bakery in LA, and with the likes of Sergio Mendez, Donny Osmond, and Ben Sidran. For several years, Patty toured with The Girls—an entertaining quartet with Lori Dokken, Judi Donaghy and Erin Schwab. In February 2007—while driving down I-35—Patty suffered a ruptured aorta! Miraculously, she not only survived to dial 9-1-1, but through surgery, recovery… and was back on the bandstand a few months later. And she sounded better than ever!
Billy Franze©Andrea Canter Recently Patty has been performing regularly at the School II in Chanhassan and hosting broadcasts on KBEM Jazz 88.5 radio, including her weekly "Play Room." She's also served as a motivational speaker for The American Heart Association, Go Red for Women, KBEM Radio, University of Texas Aortic Symposium, Mom Camp, Rotary Clubs, Super Valu, Trane and St. Jude Medical. And she keeps busy with Peterson Family performances, which in the past year or two have included the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, mom Jeanne's 90th birthday celebration, the Bloomington Center for the Arts, Old Log Theater, and more. She’ll soon release her fourth solo recording, featuring David Hazeltine, Bobby Lyle, and Sheila E., as well as Billy, Ricky and Paul Peterson. Patty can cover just about any musical style, and particularly enthralls audiences with her jazz and R&B repertoire. And when she gets together with family and friends, you can count on a great evening of entertaining music.
