 JazzMN Big BandİAndrea Canter The third annual Roseville Winter Jazz Blast for high school bands will be held this Saturday, January 16th at Maranantha Hall on the Northwestern College campus in Roseville. The blast is open to the public, and features performances, critiques and clinics for participating high school bands, as well as an evening of performances by students and the JazzMN Big Band with featured vocalist Debbie Duncan. Daytime program is free, while admission will be charged for the evening concert. Morning and Afternoon Program (no charge) Beginning at 10:40 am, invited high school jazz bands and ensembles will perform and receive critiques from musicians of the JazzMN Big Band; The Roseville HS Jazz Band II starts the day, followed by the Farmington HS Jazz Band II at 11:00. Following a break, there will be a series of master classes for high school jazz students and additional performances from 12:20 – 1:10 pm, with afternoon band performances from 1:30-4:00 pm, including bands from St. Francis, Chaska, Blaine, Roseville and Farmington.
Evening Concerts  Debbie DuncanİAndrea Canter The evening program begins at 7:30 with a performance by the band selected as the top ensemble of the day. Also performing will be the Minnesota Youth Jazz Band directed by David Mitchell, the Northwestern College Jazz Band directed by Monte Mumford, and the Jazz Mn Big Band directed by Doug Snapp. Joining JazzMN will be top area vocalist Debbie Duncan, along with the three top high school student soloists selected from the day’s performances. The Roseville Winter Jazz Blast is an opportunity for everyone to learn something about jazz, to hear some of the area’s top high school jazz ensembles in action, and to enjoy a performance by one of the Midwest’s top jazz bands. It’s also a great opportunity for student musicians to perform and learn. Evening admission is $12 (Twin Cities Jazz Society and seniors, $10; students $5). Tickets at the door or call 651-631-5151.
