The 5th Annual Fil-Am Jazzfest on Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th, will be a two-day celebration of extraordinary music and cross-cultural fellowship. In addition to fan favorites such as Charmaine Clamor, Mon David, Abe Lagrimas, and Tateng Katindig, JazzPhil-USA is delighted to introduce patrons to several amazing artists making their Fil-Am JazzFest debut, including guitarist Angelo Pizzaro (from Seattle), vocalist Charito (from Tokyo) and the soon-to-be-announced 2009 JazzPhil-USA talent search winner. Manila's finest will be well-represented, too. The Queen of Filipina jazz vocalists, Sandra Viray, returns to Hollywood, and JazzPhil-USA's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, the legendary Eddie Katindig, will be on hand for two historic performances. He was born in the Philippines and did his schooling at the University of the Philippines majoring in composition and keyboard concentration. Music is the core foundation of this family. Tateng is the son of Eddie K who is one of the Philippines record holder in the instrumental category (saxophone). In short music runs in his blood.  Charito Charito is a prominent jazz vocalist in Japan with multi-awarded albums recorded and released internationally, her artistry continues to establish its global presence with her recent and forthcoming tours in Europe, Asia, North and Latin America. Her highly personal and expressive vocal style incorporates the breadth of her musical interests, from straight-ahead soulful ballads to hard-swinging grooves and improvisational adventures. Her approach is fresh and invigorating, paying tribute to the jazz tradition while interacting and exploring, always seeking to express herself in the moment. Abraham (or Abe) Lagrimas Jr. was born in March 1983 in the U.S. territory of Guam. His father, a U.S. Navy sailor and semi-pro musician, moved the family all over the Pacific Rim eventually settling in Hawaii. It was here that Abraham began playing drums at the age 4. Along with his two older brothers Eric and Glenn (also musicians), they formed a band playing mostly hard rock and heavy metal music. Within a few months, the power trio began showcasing their music at community events and private parties all over Hawaii.
 Angelo Pizarro © Kevin Fry Angelo Pizarro, a guitar virtuoso and composer – writes and performs brilliant, improvisational acoustic and electric guitar music, mixing the traditional sounds of his Filipino heritage with the electrified funk and rock of his youth. In the past several years he has focused on the acoustic sound of the Spanish guitar, blending it into the mix and creating a beautiful eclectic style. Sandra Viray is Manila's jazz diva... Sandra is a singer of Ella-like pathos and range. She was the president of the Philippine Jazz Society for two consecutive years, and is currently President and Chairman of the Philippine International Jazz and Arts Festival. Sandra is well-renowned for her impeccable voice and style of jazz singing. Sandra is the premier jazz singer in the Philippines today. Her mastery of scat singing, soulful interpretation of every song, perfect rhythmic ideas, a vast repertoire of Broadway classics, spiritual, Latin, funk, blues and swing and lifting stage presence are just some of the star qualities that endears her to numerous followers.
