Tierney Sutton, Hubert Laws and Larry Koonse to Perform in Benefit Concert at UCLA, November 21st |

 Hubert Laws Vocalist Tierney Sutton, flautist Hubert Laws and guitarist Larry Koonse will appear in a holiday celebration concert and reception to benefit the Jazz Bakery and Friends of Jazz at the Fowler Museum at UCLA, Lenart Auditorium on Saturday, November 21st. Prior to the concert there will be a wine and cheese reception at 7:00 p.m. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. and following the covert there will be a desert reception. All ticket holders are invited to the receptions. The Jazz Bakery, the highly respected non-profit jazz-only venue, closed on May 31, 2009 after 16-years in the Helms Bakery location and plans to reopen in a new location.
 Tierney Sutton © Andera Canter Jazz vocalist and GRAMMY® nominee Tierney Sutton was a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition in 1998. Her 2004 Telarc release, Dancing in the Dark, debuted in the Billboard Jazz top ten and remained on the charts for over 15 weeks. In 2005, Sutton released her first live recording, I’m with the Band [click here for Jazz Police review], which garnered a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Internationally renowned flutist Hubert Laws is one of the few classical artists who has also mastered jazz, pop, and rhythm-and-blues genres; moving effortlessly from one repertory to another. He has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, with the orchestras of Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland, Amsterdam, Japan, Detroit and with the Stanford String Quartet. He has given annual performances at Carnegie Hall, and has performed sold out performances in the Hollywood Bowl with fellow flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal and was a member of the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera Orchestras. In addition, he has appeared at the Montreux, Playboy, and Kool Jazz festivals; he performed with the Modern Jazz Quartet at the Hollywood Bowl in 1982 and with the Detroit Symphony in 1994. After graduating from USC Larry Koonse toured extensively for six years as a member of the John Dankworth quartet, traveling all across the globe and backing up Cleo Laine. He is currently a member of Billy Child's landmark chamber sextet which just recorded a CD featuring Brian Blade. He has also toured and recorded with Mel Torme, Terry Gibbs, Bob Brookmeyer, Billy Childs, David Friesen, Warne Marsh and was a featured performer with the Percy Faith Orchestra on a tour of Japan. He also performed with Gary Willis in Sao Paulo for a government sponsored concert at SESC Ipiranga. In his travels, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Academy of Music, Disney Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and has been a featured soloist with the L.A. Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and many other orchestras throughout the world. Larry has also recorded with Cleo Laine, Al Hirt, Jimmy Rowles, Lee Konitz, Alan Broadbent, Ray Brown, Bill Perkins, Toots Thielemanns, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Sheppard, Charlie Haden and many other jazz artists.
