Zvonimir Tot (pronounced z-VON-e-mere TOTE) is a jazz guitarist, composer, and arranger with a style deeply rooted in the jazz tradition but flavored by his European origin. His twisty trek to America has resulted in an collection of degrees: a Bachelor's degree in jazz guitar and music education from Franz Liszt Academy of Musical Arts in Budapest; another Bachelor’s, in jazz performance, from Amsterdam Conservatory in The Netherlands; and a Master's in composition and jazz studies from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Tot has performed and/or recorded in The Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Croatia, with such world-renowned musicians as violinist Johnny Frigo, saxists Scott Hamilton and Billy Harper, the British saxist Peter King, drummers Ernie Adams and Paul Wertico, and the late Danish bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen.
Zvonimir Tot is the hot new voice in the world of jazz guitar virtuosos. -Judy Roberts, Chicago Jazz Magazine Zvonimir Tot is the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at University of Illinois at Chicago and currently teaches jazz guitar, harmony, ear training and ensembles. He is the founder and owner of Groove Art Records, as well as full member of ASCAP, GRAMMY, Jazz Education Network (JEN), and American Composers Forum. As a bandleader, Tot has recorded three CDs on Groove Art Records: Unspoken Desire (2007), Blue Quest (2007), and Travels and Dreams (2004), as well as several CDs as a sideman for various labels. He is an endorsing artist for Godin Guitars and Acoustic Image amplifiers. Among the most versatile and virtuosic bassists in all of jazz, Larry Gray first gained attention as the “house bassist” at Chicago’s world-famous Jazz Showcase, working with many of the music’s most famous stars; he now tours extensively, performing at such storied venues as the Monterey Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center, the North Sea Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, and the Umbria Jazz Festival. Gray appears on more than a dozen recordings, including two under his own name – Gravity, Solo + Quartet, and the newly released trio disc One Look and has anchored bands led by Clark Terry, Larry Coryell, Frank Wess, and Joe Williams (among others). In addition, he is an excellent classical musician and has served as principal bassist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and as a substitute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; his composition for double bass and guitar, Five Movements, was commissioned and performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble. A former Professor of Double Bass at DePaul University and Northern Illinois University, he currently works with pianist Ramsey Lewis, while maintaining a busy freelancing schedule. Ernie Adams, is a very experienced, high profile all-styles drummer, who has performed and recorded with many of the worlds greatest musicians. He is known for his perfect timing, solid groove, and brilliant technique that he combines with great musical taste and a wonderful personaity. He has performed, recorded, and toured with the likes of Ramsey Lewis, AI DiMiola, Joe Williams, Billy Dickens, Arturo Sandoval, Steve Cole, Dianne Reeves, Stanley Turrentine, Ahmad Jamal, Richie Cole, James Moody, Joe Zawinul, Slide Hampton, Clark Terry, Orbert Davis, the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, and the list goes on. Having graduated as Jazz major from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee , Ernie has been a Ravinia Jazz Mentor since 1995, tutoring young drummers and percussionists. Part of the Applied Music Faculty at UIC he teaches the Percussion Ensemble, Applied Jazz Drums and Percussion.
