The Lansing JazzFest is back for its fifteenth year as an annual FREE community music festival August 7th and 8th on the streets of beautiful, historic Old Town Lansing! Big names, big stages and big crowds will come together at this premiere gathering of jazz artists and the people who appreciate them from around Lansing, Michigan, and the Midwest.

Set against the back drop of a unique shopping district and an inviting atmosphere, this year’s line-up hosts a wide variety of creative jazz stylings. Smooth jazz, fusion, be-bop and big band will take turns around quartets and trios to offer the Lansing JazzFest crowd a fantastic weekend of music.

Tim Cunningham
Local legend Tim Cunningham is set to take the stage this year on Friday night to deliver an unforgettable show. Tim has played the saxophone for over half his life, headlining nightclubs and opening countless concerts for high-profile artists such as Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, and Earth, Wind & Fire, to name a few. His smooth style and awesome stage presence will entertain thousands on Turner Street.

If unique is what you seek, JazzFest has the performance for you on Saturday night! Mac Avenue recording artists Hot Club of Detroit put on a great show. The current ensemble includes guitarist Perri, accordionist Julien Labro, soprano and tenor saxophonist Carl Cafagna, rhythm guitarist Paul Brady and bassist Dave Rosin. The fibrous accordion tones of Labro, a native of Marseilles, France, links the Detroit quintet to the French musette style from which gypsy jazz partially sprung, while Cafagna’s robust saxophone work introduces bop and post-bop elements to this gypsy jazz.

WIth Tim Cunningham, Hot Club of Detroit and 16 other performances, the Lansing JazzFest continues in 2009 to offer a shining example of community success and excellence in jazz programming.

The Lansing JazzFest is produced annually by Old Town Business and Art Development Association (OTBADA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to quality arts programming, the preservation of historic buildings and economic development. See www.jazzlansing.com for more information.
