Blue Note Records will commemorate the label’s 70th anniversary with the release of Mosaic: A Celebration of Blue Note Records, an eight-song collection of classic Blue Note repertoire re-envisioned by The Blue Note 7, an all-star tribute band comprised of current jazz luminaries. The all-star septet includes pianist, musical director and current Blue Note recording artist Bill Charlap with trumpeter Nicholas Payton, tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, alto saxophonist/flutist Steve Wilson, guitarist Peter Bernstein, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Lewis Nash. More arrangements of songs from the Blue Note library will be created for The Blue Note 7 tour, which begins tonight in Yakima, Washington, and continues with stops in over 50 cities across North America, culminating in a six-night run at Birdland in New York in April. Hear them at Symphony Center in Chicago on Saturday, March 20th. Hurry and make reservations, this is nearly sold out, for tickets visit www.cso.org .

Mosaic features new versions of eight jazz classics such as Thelonious Monk’s “Criss Cross,”   arranged and performed by the Blue Note 7. Charlap said,“We chose to record compositions that would honor the label and its key players, whittling it down to eight of our favorites from Blue Note’s wide-ranging and extensive catalog.”  Mosiac is issued as a single CD, and as double CD with the second CD containing the original recordings of Mosaic by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers "Inner Urge" by Joe Henderson, "Search For Peace" by McCoy Tyner, "Little B's Poem" by Bobby Hutcherson, "Criss Cross" by Thelonious Monk, "Dolphin Dance" by Herbie Hancock, "Idle Moments" by Grant Green, and " The Outlaw" by the Horace Silver Quintet.

Blue Note Records was born on January 6, 1939 when Alfred Lion recorded two of his favorite boogie-woogie pianists, Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis,  at a New York studio. Over the course of its seven decades in business, Blue Note has recorded virtually every major figure in modern jazz, from pioneers like Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane to contemporary masters like Wynton Marsalis and Joe Lovano.
