Paulla Lammers and Reeves Cary

When Paula Lammers and Reeves Cary step onto a stage together, special things happen.  These two performers share a love for singing that radiates out to their audience and draws them into a magical journey through the songs that they sing.

On Sunday afternoon, October 5th, Paula Lammers and Reeves Cary will perform one of their highly acclaimed duet concerts, Side By Side, at the Lakeville Area Arts Center.   The show will feature music from the Swing era and beyond, highlighting the collaborative work of great singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Ray Charles and Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine. Add a few unexpected twists, and it all adds up to an entertaining and engaging concert.  The singing duo will be backed by a group of talented musicians: Martha Mathewson, piano; Jeff Brueske, bass; Dave Perry, drums; and Dana Mathewson, sax and clarinet.

Lammers and Cary met while working together singing 1940s hits on the Minnesota Zephyr dinner train.  They started performing as a duo, and they have consistently thrilled audiences with their delightful stage shows and appealing voices.  In addition to their work as a duo, they each appear as soloists in a variety of venues.   Paula fronts the nine-piece band, Paula Lammers and Cloud Nine.   She can be found singing with small combos in concerts, festivals, artist series, and in area nightclubs.  She appeared at the 2006 Grand Marais Jazz Festival and released a CD entitled A Blanket of Blue in 2005. [Click here for a Jazz Police review.] Reeves sings with the Nostalgics Vocal Quartet with The Classic Big Band, and can be heard on their CD, Sing It, Swing It.  He was featured as a soloist with the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society Band at the International Glenn Miller Festival in 2003 and 2004. He also continues to sing in the Zephyr Cabaret.

The concert begins at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by phone at (952)985-4640, or in person at the box office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Monday through Friday.  The website address for the duo is www.girlnboysinger.com .
