Ginger Commodore©Andrea Canter Maybe you were reluctant to come into downtown Minneapolis during the recent RNC. If you missed Ginger Commodore’s late evening collaboration during Convention Week, you have another, less security-wrapped opportunity on Saturday night, September 13th when Ginger and her band offer some of the hottest music of the weekend. Making it more interesting---guitarist Dean Magraw sits in for drummer Bobby Commodore for this gig. With an enchanting voice that fits the blues as well as the ballad or pop cover, Ginger Commodore began her career as a long-time member of the Grammy Award winning Sounds of Blackness. She’s an original member of Women Who Cook and Moore by Four, and has performed with Yanni, The Minnesota Opera Company, the Twin City Gospel Ensemble, the J.D. Steele Singers, and with several local theater productions, including her long-standing role at Penumbra for its annual Black Nativity. She has also toured internationally with the Chiffons. When not otherwise engaged, Ginger performs with her own quartet and with husband Bobby’s BWC. Last winter, Ginger released Live at the Hot Summer Jazz Festival. Although appearing on record with the Sounds of Blackness, Moore by Four, and with the cast from Smokey Joe’s Café, the new release is her first solo effort. Notes Britt Robson of City Pages, “Ginger possesses some of the sweetest and most clarion pipes in town.”
