The Joshua Redman Trio returns to the Village Vanguard March 18-23 Print E-mail

The Joshua Redman Trio Featuring Joshua on Tenor, Reuben Rogers on acoustic bass, and Brian Blade on drums will appear at the Village Vanguard on Wednesday, March 18h through Sunday, March 23rd.

Son of jazz pioneer Dewey Redman, Joshua Redman was notable for graduating cum laude at Harvard, winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Sax contest, and foregoing Law School at Yale for a career in jazz. Now fifteen years after embarking on his professional career, Joshua continues to compile impressive credentials. He has released eleven chart topping releases for the Warner Brothers and now Nonesuch labels. His bands have introduced several major talents to the jazz world including Christian McBride, Brad Mehldau, and Brian Blade.

Additionally major stars have recorded and toured with Joshua...they include Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, and Billy Higgins As a sideman Joshua has appeared and recorded with McCoy Tyner, Milt Jackson, Dewey Redman, Joe Lovano, Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove, and Chic Corea. The film world has also taken notice of Joshua. He performed and composed the soundtrack of "Vanya on 42nd Street", and was a featured actor and performer in Robert Altman's "Kansas City".

For the past three years Joshua Redman has been a co-leader of the San Francisco Jazz Collective a group that has also featured vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, and several other jazz all-stars. This group has toured extensively and released three acclaimed CD's.

Currently Joshua Redman is touring in support of his Grammy-nominated CD "Back East" on Nonesuch records. This CD features his trio and also features guest artists Joe Lovano, the late Dewey Redman, Christian McBride. A daring and original artistic statement, Redman's new CD has been hailed by many critics to be a modern day answer to the classic Sonny Rollins LP "Way Out West".
