Jazz Vocalists of MN at the AQ©Andrea Canter Winter weather notwithstanding, it will be a hot month for vocal jazz in the Twin Cities. And one reason will be the winter edition of the Singers’ Showcase, featuring members of the Jazz Vocalists of Minnesota on stage at the Artists Quarter in St. Paul on February 10th (7-10:30 pm). An organization dedicated to promoting vocal jazz among performers, students, and the general public, JVM will present a revue of love songs (and other songs with love-related themes) to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day. Scheduled singers include Vicky Mountain, Lucia Newell, Dorothy Doring, Connie Dussl, Lee Engele, Nancy Harms, Rhonda Laurie, Gregg Marquardt, Jackie Moen, Karen Quiroz-Bly and Chris With; there may be some additional voices as well. The singers will be backed by a prime rhythm section, Phil Aaron (piano), Graydon Peterson (bass) and Jay Epstein (drums). And mark your calendars now for the KBEM Winter Jazz Festival, to be held this year at the new MacPhail Center for Music on March 2nd. The JVM will present a showcase throughout the day (Noon - 8 pm) in the Gary Sipes Performance Space on the main level of MacPhail.
