Jim Snidero

“Master musician...vibrant sound and vigorous harmonic and melodic approach” –DownBeat

A master of alto saxophone as well as an author and educator, New York jazz artist Jim Snidero has been accumulating accolades as a live performer and recording artist. Described by Gary Giddens (Village Voice) as having “a wonderfully aggressive broadsword of a sound, recalling Bird in its sheer jubilance,” Snidero impressed the New York Times with his “dazzling” solos, while the Penguin Guide to Jazz called him “a genuinely significant figure in jazz composition.” On November 23-24. Snidero will display these skills and more at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles.

A graduate of the University of North Texas, Snidero worked in jazz and rock, including a four-year stint in Frank Sinatra’s orchestra, including recording on “Duets Two”. He spent 20 years with the award-winning Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra and toured extensively with The Mingus Big Band. His resume also includes work with Jack Mcduff, Frank Wess, Tony Bennett, Eddie Palmiari, Maria Schneider, Conrad Herwig, Brian Lynch, Walt Weiskopf, Joe Magnarelli, Sting, Billy Joel, Elton John, Ricky Martin, and others.

Since 1996, Snidero has served on the faculty of the New School University in Manhattan and has given hundreds of jazz clinics on style and improvisation through out the US, Europe and Asia as a Selmer artist. A prolific author, Jim has published two best-selling jazz etude series, Jazz Conception (17 books) and Easy Jazz Conception (15 books), which are used in high schools, universities and conservatories throughout the world.

Jim Snidero’s discography includes 14 CDs as leader for various labels. He has appeared on record with Tom Harrell, Kenny Kirkland, Benny Green, Mulgrew Miller, George Mraz, Billy Hart and many others. His recording San Juan earned four stars in Downbeat, which called his compositions "a deft mix of edge and compelling melody". Of his Standards Plus, Chip Deffaa of The New York Post wrote, "Jim Snidero"s lightly soaring alto sax is a pleasure." On October 23rd. Jim released Tippin’ on the Savant label.

This weekend, the Jazz Bakery is happy to bring a little bit of the New York scene to LA when acclaimed alto saxman Jim Snidero is on stage for two nights, November 23-24. Rounding out the ensemble will be Joe Bagg on organ, Larry Koonse on guitar, and Tim Pleasant on drums. The fun begins at 8 pm and repeats at 9:30 pm.

The Jazz Bakery is located at 3233 Helms Avenue in Los Angeles; visit www.jazzbakery.com
