Entering its 13th year, the Lansing JazzFest is a two-day FREE music festival that brings national, regional, and local acts to an audience of roughly 15,000 people from across Michigan and nearby states. JazzFest's music truly is living music, history in the making. Each artist at the festival is asked to play an original composition, something that hasn't been played at any other festival. On Friday, August 3rd performers include: Kris Johnson Quartet, Neil Gordon Quartet featuring Dan Jacobs, Paul VornHagen Quintet, Jazz Karaoke, Mose Allison, Sunkwa, and Mike Skory's Jazz All Stars. And on Saturday, August 4 the lineup features: Lanswingers, Children's Ballet Theatre of Michigan, Mike Daniels Drum Clinic, Message Makers Band, Community Dance Project, Jim Cooper Quartet, Organissimo, Sunkwa, Too Smooth for Notes, Caleb Curtis Quintet, Koke McKesson, Mose Allison, Ritmo, and Mike Skory's Jazz All-Stars — South Stage.

This year's festival will take place Friday, August 3, and Saturday, August 4, 2007, in the streets of Old Town, surrounded by the best of the Capital City's art galleries as well as unique retail stores and grand architecture. Vendors line the streets offering ethnic food, beverages, art, clothing, and crafts, and nearby galleries and boutiques open their doors during festival hours. Visit  www.jazzlansing.com for more details.

This year's JazzFest is dedicated to the memory of Robert Busby. The Lansing JazzFest takes place in the streets of Old Town Lansing, at the intersection of Turner St. and Grand River Ave.

Continuing a long and fruitful career, Mose Allison continues to write and perform all over the world. His songs have been covered by Van Morrison, John Mayall, The Who, The Clash, Eric Clapton, the Yardbirds, Elvis Costello and Bonnie Raitt, to name a few. Van Morrison recorded a tribute album, Tell Me Something, The Songs of Mose Allison, on Verve Records, and rockers like Pete Townshend, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Davies and Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones have frequently cited Mose Allison as a major influence.

"Mose Allison's popularity in the UK dates from the '60s, when his mixture of Delta-born blues feel and his gift for writing a song with a sting in the tail made him a prime source of inspiration for the UK's new generation of blues/rock artists. Not just namechecked but lionized by the likes of Pete Townshend, Jack Bruce, Brian Auger and Georgie Fame, he became British rock's most popular jazz musician. His piano style is notable for its strange mixture of classical-influenced sophistication and blues-based intimacy, and there's still none like him with a lyric." -Time Out, London's major entertainment weekly

Mose Allison's most recent Grammy nomination was for one of his two newest recordings, Mose Chronicles, Live in London, Vol. I on Blue Note Records. Mose Chronicles, Vol II was just released last year. Also, British-born director Paul Barnays has produced a one-hour documentary on Mose, entitled Mose Allison: Ever Since I Stole the Blues, for the BBC4 in the UK. Among recent releases are a dozen reissues on CD including Allison Wonderland and a double CD retrospective on Rhino, and High Jinks, a three CD package on Legacy. Blue Note has also re-released a collection of past recordings, Mose Allison, Jazz Profiles. His music has often been used in movies, and he can be seen performing in the recently released movie, The Score, starring Robert DeNiro and Marlon Brando.
