The Kitano Hotel in New York will present the Joe Locke Quartet on Friday May 11th and Saturday, May 12th with sets at 8:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., tickets are $25. The Joe Locke Quartet features Joe Lock on Vibraphone with guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, bassist Jay Anderson, and drummer Joe LaBarbera.

Joe Locke is considered by many to be the most gifted vibraphonist of his generation. His international reputation as a player, composer, band leader and conceptualist has been further enhanced recently by the accolades he has received for the creative output of his touring and recording projects, namely his 4 Walls of Freedom (voted one of the top ten CDs of 2003 by DownBeat magazine), and his work in the U.S. and Japan with the Joe Locke / Geoffrey Keezer Group. This unit's live performance at the Ballard Jazz Festival in Seattle, was awarded the Earshot Jazz 2005 Golden Ear Award as Concert of the Year.

Locke's recording "Rev.elation" - The Music of Milt Jackson, stayed at #1 on Jazz Week's national radio chart for an unprecedented 8 weeks in 2005 / 2006. In June 2006 Joe Locke was honored with the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) Award for "Mallet Player of the Year". A list of the artists with whom Joe has performed and recorded exhibits his diversity as an artist. That list includes Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Jimmy Scott, Rod Stewart, Hiram Bullock, Bob Berg and Jeff "Tain" Watts, to name only a few. Joe Locke has released over 20 recordings as a band leader, and more than 100 as a guest artist.

Guitarist/Composer Jonathan Kreisberg was born in New York City. At University of Miami he held the chair as guitarist for the acclaimed Concert Jazz band, touring Brazil and performing with Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, and Red Rodney. Upon graduation, Jonathan began playing straight ahead jazz gigs as well as a myriad of other projects. He performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. In 1997 he returned to NYC with his focus on cutting edge acoustic jazz. He has since performed in the groups of Joel Frahm, Greg Tardy, Jeff Andrews, Josh Roseman, Roy Nathanson (Jazz Passengers), Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ari Hoenig, Yosvany Terry and Lenny White, as well as leading his own groups of various instrumentations. He has composed music and performed with eclectic songsmith/writer/performance artist David Cale. He cowrote the music and serves as the musical director for the show FLOYD AND CLEA, which played at the Goodman Theater in Chicago and Hartford Stage. It makes its New York debut at Playwright's Horizon in late 2006.

Jay Anderson
Bassist/composer Jay Anderson is among the most versatile and respected jazz artists performing today. One week after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Performance from California State University at Long Beach, Anderson was asked to join the Woody Herman Orchestra. After touring with the “Herd” for a year, he was called by Carmen McRae and performed with the legendary singer for the next two years. Since moving to New York he has continued to perform and record with some of the most important names in jazz. Anderson has been a regular member in the bands of Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan, Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Bob Mintzer, Michael Franks, Eliane Elias, Bennie Wallace, Lew Tabackin, Steve Khan, Lynne Arriale, and has been a regular with the great Joe Sample since 1992. He has been featured on over 200 recordings, including work with Paul Bley, Randy Brecker, Bob Berg, Vic Juris, Mike Stern, Donald Byrd, Terumasa Hino, Mark Soskin, Lee Konitz, Warren Bernhardt, Dave Stryker, Steve Slagle, Tiger Okoshi, Rich Perry, Yosuke Yamashita, and many others. He has performed with the big bands of Kenny Wheeler, Bob Mintzer, Bob Belden, Mel Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi, George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, WDR Köln (Germany), and the critically acclaimed Maria Schneider Orchestra whose 2004 release “Concert In The Garden” won the Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.

Joe La Barbera
Joe La Barbera has enjoyed a long and varied career in music, a career that has taken him all over the world with some of the finest names in jazz. He is regarded by his peers as a musical drummer and a supportive accompanist. Jazz great Bill Evans summed it up best when he said that "Joe is very dedicated to playing quality music and he's willing to make the concessions of dues toward that end. He's a top soloist and he does the right thing at the right time." n 1978 Joe was asked to join Bill Evans in what was to become a landmark trio. Along with bassist Marc Johnson, the trio grew over a two-year period to become one Evan's finest. After Bill's untimely death in 1980, Joe joined pop singer Tony Bennet. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Joe is involved in a wide range of music. On the local scene he is busy with his own quintet as well as sideman duties for Conte Candoli, Bud Shank, Bill Perkins, Lanny Morgan and Alan Broadbent. On the international scene he is recording and touring with "Bassline" (a group with Hen Van de Geyn and John Abercrombie) Kenny Wheeler, J.M.O.G. (a cooperative group with brother Pat La Barbera) and numerous projects with the W.D.R. Big Band in Cologne.

The Kitano Hotel in New York will present the Joe Locke Quartet with guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, bassist Jay Anderson, and drummer Joe LaBarbera on Friday May 11th and Saturday, May 12th with sets at 8:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., tickets are $25. The lounge at the Kitano is a wonderful listening room, but small. So book early. They serve food and drink and have a $15 minnimum.
