Snowblind: Taking Shape Print E-mail
Written by Adam Rossmiller
Monday, 23 April 2007

Snowblind is hitting the streests with Taking Shape , their acclaimed second CD release. The Twin Cities-based jazz group introduces 10 new original compositions, featuring their three horn-player front line and in-the-pocket rhythm section.

"A contender for local jazz disc of the year." Britt Robson, Star Tribune.

"Well on its way to defining—or redefining--the modern brass jazz ensemble." Andrea Canter, Jazz Police.

Snowblind came together in 2005 on a mission to create good music. They chase the communal ideal of the jazz band: a group where all members are equal, share a musical vision, and rehearse relentlessly. Music in the tradition of jazz masters such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, and Art Blakey served as a natural starting point. The band added their own touch from the very beginning: from inventive reharmonizations and textures behind jazz standards, to original compositions inspired by jazz classics. Snowblind’s first release, Arctic Fury (2006) , serves as the band’s quirky homage to these influences.

After their initial CD release, Snowblind shaped their artistic vision during performances at The Dakota, The Artists’ Quarter, and the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival. The ten original tracks on their second CD, Taking Shape, extend the full-bodied brass sound they embrace from jazz into Latin, classical, and groove-oriented compositions. Taking shape has been praised by critics.

Taking Shape is available online at CD Baby .
