Looking for a jazz party for New Year’s Eve? There’s plenty of boppin’ action across the nation. Here’s a sampling from major jazz markets throughout the U.S. Check local club listings for more about jazzy celebrations near you!


  • Regatta Bar (Charles Hotel, 1 Bennett St, Cambridge). Sugar Ray and the Bluetones Big Band. Dessert buffet package ($125) or full dinner package ($184); dinner reservations from 5:30 pm; dessert buffet at 8 pm; music at 8:30 pm.

  • Scullers (400 Soldiers Road, Boston; Doubletree Suites). Earl Klugh. Shows at 8 ($50) and 11 pm ($60); full dinner and party packages at $269 (early) and $339 (late) sets per couple; hotel packages available. Reservations at 617-562-4111;


  • Green Mill (4802 N. Broadway). Battle of the Saxes with Von Freeman and Edward Peterson and the Green Mill All Stars. 8 pm, $25. 773-878-5552;

  • Jazz Showcase (59 W. Grand). Grand finale at this location: David Fathead Newman and Henry Johnson’s Organ Express. Call 312/670-2473 after 7pm for information and reservations.

Los Angeles

  • Catalina’s (6725 W. Sunset Blvd), Tierney Sutton. Party at 7 pm, dinner package $125.

  • Jazz Bakery (3233 Helms Av), NY Eve Party and Fund Raiser for the club with Flora Purim and Airto Moreira. Early (8:30 pm) or Late (10:30) shows, $75 each or both shows $100; all but $25 is tax deductible. Wine, champagne, snacks and sweets. Reservations 310-271-9039.


  • The Van Dyke Café (846 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach). Doris Spears with Don Wilner, Bob DeVos. $25, 10 pm.

Minneapolis/St. Paul

  • Birdland (315 W. 44th St), Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra with Hilary Kole; sets at 8 pm ($40) and 10 pm ($60) with $20 minimum.

  • Blue Note (131 W. Third St), Chris Botti Quintet. 7 pm set, $60/$95 (table); 10 pm set, $95 bar, tables sold out.

  • Iridium (1650 Broadway), Diane Schuur with Dave Samuels and the Caribbean Jazz Project. Sets at 8:30 and 10:30 pm; $45.

  • Jazz Standard (116 E. 27th Street), Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Dinner packages, 7:30 pm $125; 10:30 pm $195.

  • Kitano Hotel (66 Park Av at 38th Street), Don Braden Quartet with Roseanna Vitro; 9 pm ($30) and 11 pm ($40); both shows $60.

  • Village Vanguard (178 Seventh Av), Dr. Michael White’s Original Liberty Jazz Band of New Orleans. Two sets (9:30 pm and 11:30 pm), $125 for both sets includes $25 minimum bar, New Orleans finger food and party favors.


San Francisco/Oakland

  • Yoshi’s (Jack London Square, Oakland), McCoy Tyner Quartet. Show sold out (call for cancellations—510-238-9200 or availability of other shows this week)


  • Jazz Alley (2033 6th Av), Holiday Jam with Nikki Harris, Kevin Mahogany, Tony Monaco Trio and Red Holloway. 8:45 pm and 11 pm with four packages available including cocktails, dinner, dessert, and combinations from $47.50-$130.50.

Washington, DC

  • Blues Alley (1073 Wisconsin NW), The Ahmad Jamal Trio with the Keeter Betts Memorial Band (featuring Paul Bollenback). Dinner shows at 6:30 and 10 pm.
