 Hiromi
Thr 27-year-old pianist, Hiromi has
impressed such notables as Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea and Ahmad Jamal
(who
now manages her career). Hher Telarc debut (Another
Mind) in 2003 and the two that followed (Brain in 2004; Spiral in
2005) have had received critical aclaim. Says mentor/producer/manager
Jamal, "Hiromi is changing the
musical landscape. Her music, charm and spirit let her soar to
unimaginable heights. She is nothing short of amazing." A native of
Shizuoka, Japan, Hiromi started playing piano at age 5, was performing
in public by age 12, and at 14 performed with the Czech Philharmonic.
She eventually enrolled at Berklee in Boston, and has been touring the
world, performing for sell-out crowds ever since.

A guitarist's guitarist, Larry Coryell
will be performing with two other jazz fusion pioneers, drummer Lenny White and bassist Victor Bailey. White is best-known
for his years with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Al DiMeola in Return
To Forever, plus his stellar contribution to Miles Davis's epochal
"Bitches Brew". Victor Bailey took over the bassist spot from Jaco
Pastorius in Weather Report and toured extensively with Madonna. Since
he began honing his skills on the guitar in New York City in 1965,
Coryell has recorded more than 70 albums as a bandleader, soloist and
feature accompanist. Over the years, Larry Coryell has been dubbed the
godfather of jazz fusion. Larry Coryell has also been asserting his
guitar authority in more straight-ahead contexts on accoustic guitar,
but with this dynamic trio of heavyweight performers, there are no
boundries.

- 1:00 - 2:15: Hiromi
- 2:35 - 3:50: Larry Coryell, Victor Bailey & Lenny White Trio
- 4:10 - 5:25: Vanessa Rubin
- 5:45 – 7:00: Nicholas Payton
FREE and open to the Public, the event is Co-sponsored by the Rosslyn
BID, Arlington Cultural Affairs and Rosslyn Renaissance. Portions of
the event will again be broadcast live by jazz station WPFW 89.3 FM,
and hosted by several on-air personalities! As always, the Rosslyn Jazz
Festival also will offer a range of fantastic foods from finer local
restaurants & vendors.
