But jazz, the world of improvisation, is perhaps the highest, because we do not have the opportunity to make changes. On Friday, June 23, at 8:00 p.m. at Carnegie Hall, you can enjoy Herbie's World: Herbie Hancock & Friends.
Herbie will perform with groups of two, three, four and five
featuring Quartet with Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland and Brian Blade; Trio with Jack DeJohnette and Ron Carter; Piano Duets with Gonzalo Rubalcaba; and Quintet with Richie Barshay, Lionel Loueke, Matt Garrison and Lili Haydn with special guest Marcus Miller.
Herbie Hancock's 40-year career embraces a remarkable body of work with unparalleled artistic and commercial triumphs. He has received six Grammys, an Oscar, and countless music magazine poll awards.
Herbie's friends include some of the jazz world's most renowned players and creators of music. Hancock is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while still maintaining his unique, unmistakable voice. With an illustrious career spanning five decades, he continues to amaze audiences and never ceases to expand the public's vision of what music, particularly jazz, is all about today. Proceeds from this concert will benefit the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. According to Hancock, the Institute is one of the programs that is especially "near and dear" to his heart. This full scholarship program, located at the University of Southern California, accepts a select group of the world's most talented young jazz artists and provides them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from jazz legends, including Hancock.
