Next up on June 23rd, to start the night off at 8:30 pm, they welcome back accomplished legend Mavis Staples who possesses one of the most recognizable and treasured voices in contemporary music. Also later that night at 9:30 pm, they have a special treat as they welcome The Blind Boys of Alabama who have dazzled audiences with their spirit and energy of pure soul gospel music for over 60 years.

The remaining Concert Under the Stars Series line-up reads like a who's who of jazz artists, including Hilton Ruiz, the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the inspiring McCoy Tyner Septet, multi-talented vibraphonist Stefon Harris, funk master Maceo Parker, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, recent Juno award winners Bedouin Soundclash, and last but certainly not least, the explosive rising star Jamie Cullum, a Grammy award nominee who continues to redefine where the parameters of pop, and jazz - indeed, all musical genres - are drawn. Performing with Jamie is up and coming Sonya Kitchell.

The Great Canadian Jazz Series will once again feature amazing artists from across Canada including The Ron Davis Quintet, Melissa Stylianou, ¡Bomba!, Joe Sealy Trio and Blay Ambolley, Joe Sullivan Big Band, Alex Pangman & Her Alleycats, Julie Lamontagne Trio, ODD and the Roberto Occhipinti Quintet and others to be announced.

The National Arts Centre (NAC) will again be hosting the Studio Series, with late night performances by artists such as Holland's Joost Buis, mood –evoking Quadro Nuevo, Phil Nimmons & David Braid who will make a one-time appearance at the Canadian jazz festivals in 2006, Susi Hyldgaard, Alberto Pinton Quartet, Bomba, Kirk MacDonald Quartet, Michael Bates Quartet and the eclectic E.S.T. who are considered one of the most innovative jazz bands on the world scene today.

On June 27th for a special concert, they present the fabulous The Brad Mehldau Trio. They have been heralded by the Los Angeles Times to be "universally admired as one of the most adventurous pianists to arrive on the Jazz scene in years". He is first and foremost an improviser, yet with a deep fascination for the formal architecture of music.

Jazz Meets the World returns again this year with artists the infectious sounds of Ska Cubano with their amazing mento/calypso/ska/rock steady and roots reggae fusion sound echoing these rootstocks in their music.

The Mark Ferguson Trio will be leading daily shows again this year at 10:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn's Late Night Jamming Series.

Buoyed by last year's initial success, they are bringing back the Improv Invitational Series, a series highlighting artists who have established their reputations as the most highly regarded improvisers in the world of jazz. It will be held at the NAC's Fourth Stage. Performing will be Norway's Wibutee, Pierre Cartier, Grammy award-winning Yusef Lateef & Belmondo, Nils Petter Molvaer, Brad Turner & Dylan van der Schyff, and the Jerry Granelli Septet.

The festival will present the Nordic Jazz Project in the festival where they will feature a series of great artists from the Nordic countries. The artists featured this year are coming from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark (with the Finnish orchestra UMO coming in 2007). Under the auspices of the Nordic embassies, these amazing artists including Susi Hylgaard, Wibutee, Nils Petter Molvaer, Alberto Pinton Quintet, and the stunningly talented EST are joining us on various stages throughout the festival.

The 2006 Festival will also feature other popular branded series that continue to draw a loyal and devoted audience at Confederation Park and other various indoor and outdoor venues in the downtown core. These include Youth Series and Family Day, Galaxie Jazz Clinic Youth All-Stars; and of course the free series: Rendez-vous Rideau Jazz Series, World Exchange Plaza , Lunchtime Jazz Series, Jazz at Five, and Commuter Jazz.
