JazzINK, a new website devoted to information, education,
viewpoints and images of jazz, was launched May 4, 2006.

At
www.jazzink.com,
you will find a broad range of content—spotlights on upcoming
performances nationwide (“Gigs—Picks of the Month”), profiles
of musicians, interviews with musicians and others involved in jazz,
CD and gig reviews, information and features related to jazz
education and youth jazz, viewpoints and basics to enhance listening
and enjoyment of jazz (“Jazz for All”), and a growing gallery of
photos related to jazz performance as well as photographic
“improvisations.” New content will be added at least weekly,
including feature articles or reviews, and there will be at least
monthly recommendations for live jazz performance around the country.
In addition to taking a national perspective, the site will promote
Minneapolis/St. Paul area musicians and events through a Twin Cities
page.
JazzINK was founded and
is managed by Andrea Canter, who has served as Contributing Editor to
the Jazz Police website
(www.jazzpolice.com)
since that site was launched in April 2004 by Don Berryman. The two
websites will share some content and cross-link when appropriate.
Said Canter, “My goal
is to create a site that complements rather than competes with Jazz
Police and other popular jazz sites that largely feature news and
event promotion. JazzINK will serve as a forum for musicians,
educators, and writers who might otherwise have few outlets for their
ideas and observations but who can provide high quality, high
interest material. JazzINK will appeal to people like me—nonmusicians
who are excited by the freedom of expression that defines jazz and
who want to learn more about the music, the artists, and what’s
available in recordings, books, and live performances.” While
well-known jazz artists will be included in previews, reviews, and
profiles, Canter also plans to identify outstanding artists who are
not yet in the spotlight but deserve more recognition.
