Looking for ways to jazz up Valentine’s Day this year? Look no farther than the world’s epicenter of jazz, Manhattan! Some good bets for a night that’s hot and sweet:

Birdland ( www.birdlandjazz.com)
A double bill, with Andrea McArdle at 7 pm, Hilary Kole at 9 and 11 pm. Andrea McArdle is one of the bright lights on Broadway (Annie, Starlight Express, State Fair, Les Miz, Beauty and the Beast). Kole has been acclaimed for her role as vocalist and co-creator of Our Sinatra and Signing Astaire.

Blue Note ( www.bluenotejazz.com)
Veteran vocalist/pianist/songwriter Rachelle Ferrell takes over the stage February 14-19. She started out on violin, was singing and playing piano in clubs in her teens, and graduated from the Berklee College of Music. Her credits include appearances with Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, George Benson, and George Duke. While her star shines bright as a vocalist, she continues to compose and write songs on piano and violin.

Iridium ( www.iridiumjazzclub.com)
Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, which means the Mingus Big Band at the Iridium. This ten-piece ensemble of some of the hottest players in modern jazz carries on the legend of Charles Mingus. This week the band features the voices of Rene Manning and Frank Lacy.

Jazz Gallery (Benefit) ( www.jazzgallery.org)
A special show featuring trumpet king Roy Hargrove and guitar wiz Lionel Louke to raise funds for this nonprofit jazz haven. Other special guests!

Jazz at Lincoln Center ( www.jalc.org)
The most intimate space at the new JALC, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola presents the most dynamic keyboard duo around, Cyrus Chestnut and Eric Reed in the Stretching the Ivories Festival (February 14-19). Great support from bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer Willie Jones III, the program will feature duets, trios, and full quartet performances.

Hard to imagine a more romantic evening than Blue Smoke barbecue serenaded by the Freddy Cole Quartet. Nat’s younger brother has developed his own style, presenting the Great American Songbook with panache.

Smoke ( www.smokejazz.com)
Come uptown for an intimate evening with a hot ensemble—vocalist Annette St. John takes the stage with one of New York’s most masterful quartets--Eric Alexander,
Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein, and Joe Farnsworth.

Village Vanguard ( www.villagevanguard.com)
The Bill McHenry Quartet starts a 6-night residency here were all roads lead to jazz. Saxman McHenry features Reid Anderson (Bad Plus) on bass, Ben Monder on guitar, and the inimitable Paul Motian on drums.

55 Bar ( www.55bar.com)
The jazz alternative in the Village, Valentine’s Day features a double bill, with vocalist Katie Bull and quartet on stage for the early show, followed by the famed guitarist/composer Leni Stern for the late set. How eclectic can you get?
