Image Hear impeccable jazz from The Jack Conway Trio Friday, January 27 from 7:00 - 10:00 P.M. at the Ugly Mug Coffee House, 4640 Soquel Drive, Soquel. Classic to contemporary; Duke Ellington to Dave Frishberg. Guitarist Jack Conway, Bassist Roger Dahlberg, and Drummer Reno Brian feature Vocalist Juanita Harris who evokes echoes of Ella -- wonderfully elegant singing that reminds you why live music is such an incredible experience. No cover.

Jack Conway, Guitar Starting on the guitar in 1962, Jack has studied with Bill Courtial, Jerry Hahn, Charles Gustavson, and Art Lande. Jack has played in many different groups and orchestras covering folk, jazz and community theater. In addition to The Jack Conway Trio, Jack currently plays with Octobop, VJB, Tuesday Nite Live and The Jack Tones. Among his influences are Groucho Marx, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Father Guido Sarducci, Jim Hall, Freddie Greene and Alan Greenspan.

Roger Dahlberg, Bass The son of a high school music teacher, Roger started on clarinet and saxophone in grade school. He developed his bass chops in Tokyo, Japan while serving with the Air Force and looking for bass players with whom to play saxophone. He has played a lot of bass and a little bit of tenor sax in the Bay Area since the early 1960s. He has played in numerous bands and for musical theatre throughout the Bay Area. In addition to the Jack Conway Trio, Roger currently plays bass with Touch of Brass, Tuesday Nite Live and The Jack Tones. On the theory that lower and bigger is better, he is currently seeking to acquire a bass saxophone to play.Image

Juanita Harris, Vocals & Violin Unlike the two ex-Chicago boys, Juanita is a hometown girl, born in California. She studied music at Cal State Humboldt and graduated from Boston's Berklee College of Music. An accomplished singer and violinist, she recently returned from a ten-year hiatus on the East Coast to see what the Bay Area could do for her restless musician's soul. She says "I love my classical, old school R&B and a little hard rock too, but apparently singing jazz is where my voice likes to be." Juanita digs Sarah Vaughan and Ella. For instrumentalists she is into the entire Marsalis family, particularly Branford and Wynton. Juanita currently performs with The Choral Project.

Scott "Reno" Brian, Drums Originally from Sacramento, Reno received his Bachelor of Music from San Jose State in 2002 and his Masters in Jazz Studies from North Texas State in 2005. In Texas Reno played with big band Big "T" and the Bada-Bings as well as The Nick Schroeder Quintet and The Jason Bellack Quintet. Reno has played with Chris Ferrari's All Star Band and Touch of Brass and fronted his own groups: Different Strokes Percussion and R + 5. Reno arranges, composes, teaches and plays all styles of music from church gigs to musicals, orchestras, rock, big bands and jazz.
