“Every tune that I’ve written so far has a meaning and a story within it that I want the whole group to capture ... A lot of guys, when they play, are not thinking about what they’re actually playing; they’re just thinking about maybe the chords, or how the rhythm changes, or something like that, but I really try to tell a story and I want the group that plays my tunes to try to see what I saw when I wrote them.” - Grachan Moncur III

Image The Japanese division of HMV has honored vocalist Nicole Henry and her second album "Teach Me Tonight" with their HMV Award for "Best Vocal Jazz Album 2005". Produced by Todd Barkan and featuring the Eddie Higgins Trio, the Venus Records release reached number one on the Japanese jazz charts, remaining in the top ten for several weeks. This is Henry's second HMV Award, the first being "Best New Jazz Artist of 2004" after the success of her debut CD, "The Nearness of You" (Banister Records).

Described by the Japan Times as "one of the most impressive live performers to polish up The Great American Songbook," Nicole Henry's voice and presence continues to gain fans around the world. Her recent touring schedule has included Mexico, London, Korea, Japan and the U.S. She's performed at the Rainbow Room with the Cab Calloway Orchestra and the Lincoln Center with the Juilliard Jazz Octet and has shared the stage with such greats as Nicholas Peyton, Eric Alexander, Kenny Werner, Duffy Jackson, Isaac Hayes, Roberta Flack, Tower of Power, Tom Scott and Johnny O'Neal.

Henry is currently working on her third CD project, with award-winning record producer Rachel Faro, in which she will continue her unique interpretations of classic jazz standards as well as introducing new and original material.
