It is just such a democratic unit, a jazz unit, if it is done right. Each one has a voice. There is a central theme and you make a whole. It is such a sharing thing. It is such a community. Can you imagine if the whole world was run on these principles? It is a dangerous philosophy in a way. - Sathima Bea Benjamin

Now in its 22nd year as a non-profit organization, SFJAZZ is dedicated to the growth of jazz and jazz audiences, celebrating this music as a living art built on a constantly evolving tradition. Artistically, SFJAZZ is devoted to jazz at the highest level, with concert performers ranging from acknowledged masters to the newest and most promising talents on the international, national, and San Francisco Bay Area scenes.

Now in its sixth year, the SFJAZZ Spring Season has grown from a series of weekend concerts to a four-month extravaganza of music, education programs, and more. Highlighting the season, which runs from March 12 through June 26, is the much-anticipated return on March 19 of the SFJAZZ Collective - SFJAZZ's own all-star resident band featuring the "best musicians in the world," according to the San Francisco Chronicle - after their sizzling debut last year. This year the SFJAZZ Collective will focus on the work of modern master John Coltrane.

This season includes Dave Brubeck, Branford Marsalis Quartet, Ravi Coltrane Septet, Ahmad Jamal, Mingus Big Band, SFJAZZ Collective, Manhattan Transfer, Frank Morgan/Cyrus Chestnut, Rashied Ali/Sonny Fortune, ROVA Saxophone Quartet and Arkestra, Solomon Burke, Orchestra Baobab, Preservation Hall, Maria Rita, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ivan Lins, Bad Plus, McCoy Tyner, Michael Brecker, ... and many more!
