Directions in Music: "Our Times" Tour
ImageFor the remainder of the winter Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, and Roy Hargrove will cross the continent with performaces in  University Park, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Madison, Kansas City, Detroit, Toronto, Urbana Champaign, Chicago, Fayetteville, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Houston.

In 2001 the historical musical collaboration Directions In Music was formed to mark the 75th Anniversary of the births of John Coltrane and Miles Davis. A sold out tour playing to over 200,000 people worldwide and a breakthrough Grammy Award winning album followed. Pianist Herbie Hancock, tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker and trumpeter Roy Hargrove come together again in the spirit of the original project, the new exploration of music. Individually, they represent three successive generations of jazz musicians. Together they lead a powerful quintet performing compositions inspired by the two modern jazz legends while reaching beyond and discovering new pathways of composition and sound.

This follow-up program, Directions In Music: "Our Times," considers the themes of contemporary composers who have helped influence the progression of the continuous jazz vernacular: the likes of Wayne Shorter, Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, Stevie Wonder, and the late Ray Charles. Joining Hancock, Brecker, and Hargrove on the stage for this meeting of great musical minds will be bassist Scott Colley and Terri Lyne Carrington.

Herbie Hancock's 40-year career embraces a remarkable body of work with unparalleled artistic and commercial triumphs. He has received six Grammys, an Oscar, and countless music magazine poll awards. Brecker, among the most studied instrumentalists in music schools throughout the world today, is a seven-time Grammy-winner. At age 33, Hargrove has made his mark as one of most versatile and hardest working players in jazz, having led quartets, quintets, nonets, and a big band in his 14 years as a professional.
