Image The Jazz Society of Pensacola will present its semi-annual "JazzFest Goes On" night at Seville Quarter from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday February 26. Featured artists will be Pensacola-Nashville vocalist Kitt Lough and her group in Apple Annie's Courtyard, pianist Bobby Van Deusen and bassist Dr. Bob Andrews in Lili Marlene's, and Joe Occhipinti's Big Band for listening and dancing in Phineas Phogg's. The Swing Kids Dancers will also be a featured attraction.

Crystal Joy, Jazz Society Board member is chair of the event. She said, " This is a wonderful way to support the continuation of Pensacola JazzFest and to have a fun evening. Kitt Lough was a big hit at Pensacola JazzFest last year. This is a great opportunity to hear her again in a casual setting. Pianist Bobby Van Deusen, accompanied by bassist Dr. Bob Andrews, will draw a crowd, as always, in Lili Marlene's. Joe O's Big Band will play jazz standards for both dancers and listeners, and the Swing Kids will again amaze us with their dancing talents."

Jack Williams, General Manager of Seville Quarter said, " We are always happy to work with the Jazz Society and support Pensacola JazzFest. There will be food and beverage service in all the rooms with a special menu. Full dining is available in the Palace Oyster Bar."

There will be an umbrella parade at the end of the evening with a door prize for the best decorated umbrella. Crystal Joy commented, " We are preparing for an umbrella (Second Line) parade at JazzFest. There will be a grand prize given at that time for the best decorated umbrella. We want to see many of you join in during JazzFest Goes On night, too. If you don't have an umbrella, the Jazz Society has a choice of two types for sale. Call the Jazz Society office for details, 433-8382."

Advance tickets are available at Seville Quarter, Dollarhide's Music and Sound and at Reynalds Music House. For tickets by mail, make check to "JSOP" and mail to Jazz Society of Pensacola, PO Box 18337, Pensacola, FL 32523-8337. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for ticket return. Cost of advance tickets is $15 and $18 at the door. Student tickets, with ID, are $5 at the door.

Pensacola JazzFest is a free jazz festival celebrating all types of jazz. It will be held in Seville Square on Saturday and Sunday April 9-10. Headliners include Jazz Ensemble of the U. S. Navy Commodores led by Pensacola native saxophonist Steve Williams; a Latin group from St. Petersburg, FL; O Som Do Jazz, a New Orleans trio featuring pianist Chuck Chaplin, vocalist Betty Shirley and saxophonist/flutist Loren Pickford; The Boondockers, a California group which performs vintage jazz and comedy; and The Rebirth Brass Band, a New Orleans marching and performing band.

For the second year, there will be a Youth Stage in Fountain Park, adjacent to Seville Square. Performances will be geared especially toward school-age youth. Several of the headliners will also perform on the Youth Stage as well as local and regional bands and performers. Beach Ball Realty is sponsor of the Youth Stage.

This will be the 22nd presentation of Pensacola JazzFest. Additional commercial and individual sponsors are sought. Volunteers are integral to the success of the JazzFest. Please contact the Jazz Society 433-8382 or visit their website www.jazzpensacola.com for additional information and photos of the headliners. In case of unfavorable weather, Seville Quarter will be the "rain place." Seville Inn is the official housing headquarters for musicians and guests. Their local number is 850-433-8331.
