| Vanessa Rubin |
| Many of you may recall Vanessa from past jazz festivals on land or sea and she is always such a hit. She studied classical music but fortunately for us switched to jazz very early on in her career. She has sung with Frank Foster's Loud Minority and the big bands of Mercer Harrington and Lionel Hampton. Her ballads are sublime and she swings with the best. Who could ask for anything more?
|
| Larry Gray |
| Bassist Larry Gray is with us once again and we are more than pleased to have him. Larry's impressive skills and uncommon versatility were aptly displayed with the Ramsey Lewis trio. He has shared the stage with such jazz legends as Clark Terry, Joe Henderson and Bobby Hutcherson. He is an esteemed member of many Universities Jazz Faculties and often plays Chicago's premier jazz venue Jazz Showcase. Welcome back Larry!
|
| National Youth Jazz Orchestra, UK |
| This wonderful 21 piece orchestra are flying all the way from the UK to entertain us. NYJO is well known throughout the world as a glittering showcase for the country's best young musicians. Their versatility is amazing and they are no strangers to the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. They backed Phil Woods at The Jazz Cafe in London last year just before he played at our 3rdAJPAS. He was so impressed and we know that you will be too with this sensational young orchestra.
|
| Judy Roberts |
| Judy is one of the most multi talented vocalist, pianist and guitarist in the world of jazz. Her CD's are numerous and everyone gets into the US charts. Judy plays regularly with Greg Fishman and Paulinho Garcia and is definitely one of the "Women Who Swing Chicago". She swung at our 3rd Annual Jazz Part At Sea and we know she will at our 4th. Great to have you back Judy!
|
| Two For Brazil– Greg Fishman and Paulinho Garcia |
| We love this wonderful Latin jazz duo. Greg with his sassy tenor sax and flute along with Paulinho's melodic, acoustic guitar will have you tapping out that Latin rhythm as they play us our favourite numbers from their Two for Brazil CD. Our hips are already swaying in anticipation.
|
| Lou Donaldson Quartet featuring Dr. Lonnie Smith, Randy Johnston and Fukushi Tainaka |
| Sweet Papa Lou is aboard the Sun for the 4th Annual Jazz Party at Sea. He will have his quartet that has had everybody jumping over the past few years, the one with Dr. Lonnie Smith and his rollicking keyboard sound along with Randy Johnston and Fukushi Tainaka. This is the way it sounded uptown in the 1950's and it will sound the same aboard the fabulous Norwegian Sun. Don't miss them!
|
| Everett Greene |
| The big bass baritone with an Eckstine feel for the blues and romantic ballads is a must for our parties. We are so glad he is back to make the girls swoon again.
|
| Henry Johnson’s Organ Express featuring Chris Foreman, Peter Roothan and Greg Rockingham |
| Henry is back with Greg Rockingham, Peter Roothan and Chris Foreman. This fantastic group played for Joe's birthday on our 1st ever Annual Jazz Party At Sea and what a success they were. So get ready for the fantastic guitar and vocals of Mr Johnson and for some hard swinging, fun-filled, exciting jazz like the way it was in the 60's. Can't wait to have you back guys! |
Plus others including - Joel Spencer-Drums, Joan
Hickey-Piano and Mike Kocour-Piano
This extraordinary 4th
Annual Jazz Party at Sea begins in Miami on Saturday
23rd-30th October 2004. |
Ports of call:
Miami
First-time visitors to Miami are often surprised at the strong Hispanic
flavour of the place. Of course, its as much a gateway to the Caribbean
as it is to North America. Many come and stay - witness the affluent
suburbs of Coral Gables, arty Coconut Grove and the marvellous Art
Deco South Beach district. For movie stars, high rollers and roller-blading
college kids, this is their place to hang out in the sun.
George Town, Grand Cayman
Once a pirate stronghold and haven for deserters from Oliver Cromwell's
army, British Grand Cayman today is charming, prosperous and utterly
civilized. Even though the famous Seven-Mile Beach is actually closer
to six miles long, every inch of its golden sand is a treat. In
addition to duty-free shops filled with fine English porcelain and
crystal, the marvellous marine park system alone makes a visit here
worthwhile. The Cayman Islands boast some of the best wreck diving
in the world.
Roatan, Bay Islands
These eight islands north of the coast of Honduras stretch out in
a line forty miles long, but barely four miles wide. Hills ringed
with palm-fringed beaches dip into a warm, crystal-clear blue sea
sheltered by reefs and swept by gentile trade winds. The perfect
place to scuba and explore the impressive pillar coral, you'll also
enjoy a warm welcome from the locals, descendants of eight different
cultures.
Belize City, Belize
Belize City is a laid back mix of colonial houses, simple wooden
buildings and historic cathedrals. Drop into a bar to try the local
Belikin beer and your choice of Chinese, Latin American and Creole
cuisine. Outside the city, more than half of Belize remains covered
in tropical forest, home to such rare species as Howler Monkeys
and Jabiru storks. Offshore, its spectacular barrier reef, the world's
second largest, begs to be explored.
Cozumel, Mexico
The beaches, dining and shopping are great on this tiny tropical
isle just 12 miles off Mexico's coast. But it's the coral reef just
off shore and the sacred Mayan ruins that are the primary attractions.
Palm-lined beaches throb with activity, while a dense jungle interior
showcases Cozumel's primeval side. Spectacular Palancar Reef, part
of the second longest coral reef system in the world, beckons divers
the world over.
