Happy Apple Print E-mail

Image Named after a 1960s vintage Fisher-Price toy, Happy Apple began mixing their genres in 1996 in Minneapolis. Their highly melodic and craftily constructed vision of jazz takes free-bop experimentation into the sonic realm of rock -- lots of dynamics, humor and heat with none of the connotations that have led some to fusion-phobia. Bassist Eric Fratzke comes from rawkin' projects like Casino Royale and Zebulon Pike; David King on drums can barely keep track of his bands from The Bad Plus to F*K*G; and multi-saxophonist Michael Lewis' "melody & mayhem" sound can be heard with Fat Kid Wednesdays and numerous other bands and recordings including a regular early gig at Rossi's Blue Star Room.
