Unlike Ballads and the acclaimed follow-up, In Blue, which were recorded with well known New York musicians, Karrin returns to her Kansas City bandmates on Wild for You-- guitarists Danny Embrey and Rod Fleeman, drummer Todd Strait, and pianist Paul Smith (on Fender Rhodes throughout Wild).
This is the band with whom she has toured and made her previous
recordings, and the band she has typically brought with her to the Twin
Cities. Said Allyson, "This is a personal album: These songs are
personal, they're in my history, and these guys are a big part of my
history. Plus they're all great players." Also appearing on the new
recording is pianist and arranger Gil Goldstein, who worked with
Allyson to give each tune its unique form, not too far removed from its
original but well into the realm of jazz interpretation.
I'm looking forward to hearing some of the new material from Wild for You,
for these are the songs of my "younger" days as well. But if Karrin
wants to throw in her smoldering renditions of "My Foolish Heart" or
"You Can't Rush Spring," it won't bother me a bit... not a bit.
