"I can take it anywhere it goes, right? I love to play inside, outside...but the organ swings best when it swings, doesn't it? That's what that organ is good for. You could try to play hip all you want, but when you swing that thing, there's no other feeling like it." - Doctor Lonnie Smith

Summer Sounds ’04

Monday, July 19, 2004 6-11 p.m.

The Calhoun Beach Club

… an Official Aquatennial Event

Proceeds from this year’s gala event, SUMMER SOUNDS ’04, will go toward providing scholarships for Students in Need. Sponsored by the Minneapolis Aquatennial and the Harrington Foundation (a 501©(3) charitable organization) Summer Sounds will be held at the Calhoun Beach Club Monday, July 19th, 2004 from 6-11p.m. In today’s world an advanced degree is one of the best investments you can make. A bachelor’s degree can significantly help one to increase earnings by as much as 77% compared to someone with only a high school diploma. By participating in this event you can help give the gift of education to our youth.

As an attendee you will be entertained by the swinging sounds of The Whitesidewalls, Nachito Herrera, The Cyril Paul Calypso Band, jazz vocalist Debbie Duncan, Bill Duna Latin Jazz Trio, Rene Thompson doing Cuban Latin Dance, jazz vocalist Joan Autrey, Mira & Tom Kehoe with Xibaba Brazilian Jazz, Doug Muller singing Broadway show tunes, and Elgin Lee, a 5 year old classical pianist. This and other continuous entertainment, including the “show stopping,” Mannequin in Motion, will take place on the entire second floor of the Calhoun Beach Club on the north shore of Lake Calhoun.
