Cosponsored by the Twin Cities Jazz Society as part of the “Jazz From J to Z” series, this concert will be held at Ted Mann Concert Hall on the U of M West Bank at 7:30pm. Admission is free. Notes Director of Jazz Studies, Dean Sorenson, “While the big band enjoys a fine tradition of composition, it is important for the growth of the art form that new works are added to the repertoire. This concert celebrates the creation of new music with numerous premieres of compositions and arrangements. Many pieces performed have been composed by members of the ensemble, or recent graduates of the program.” Featured composers will include current Jazz Ensemble I students Joe Strachan, Andres Crovetti, Noah Ophoven-Baldwin, Riley Helgeson, Tim Mackie, and Cameron Kinghorn, and Adam Meckler, recent U of M graduate and leader of the very innovative Adam Meckler Orchestra, which performs monthly at Jazz Central in Minneapolis.
