Christian Scott One of the brightest jazz stars to emerge in the last few years, Christian Scott is a natural. Just entring his 30's, the trumpeter has both the tone and the conviction of the great players of his instrument. He eschews cliche and gimmickry in favor of an expressive sensibility and a willingness to break rules when it makes musical sense to him. A New Orleans native, Scott represents the next generation of Crescent City horn blowers whose lineage started with the legendary King Oliver and Louis Armstrong and has continued with such marquee trumpeters as Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and Nicholas Payton. He will appear at the Blue Whale in L.A. on Friday, May 24th through Sunday, May 26th. The quintet also features Braxton Cook on saxophones, Matthew Stevens on guitar, Luques Curtis on bass, and Corey Fonvilleon drums |

Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart Jazz organ trios don't get much better than this, the New York Times called them “the best organ trio of the last decade.” Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart will be performing at Vitello’s Jazz & Supper Club in Studio City on Friday, May 17th through Sunday, May 19th with shows at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. nightly. Guitarist Peter Bernstein has most recently been touring with the saxophone colossus himself, Sonny Rollins, and has also provided his signature sound to a who’s who of jazz icons from Lou Donaldson to Joshua Redman, and Dr. Lonnie Smith to Jack McDuff. Drummer Bill Stewart has laid down his powerful yet melodic foundation for artists such as Maceo Parker, John Scofield and Joe Lovano. With his signature Hammond organ style and multi–keyboard versatility, Larry Goldings has traversed a rainbow highway of music lending his distinctive playing for recordings by Christina Aguilera, Tracy Chapman, Robben Ford, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Norah Jones, and as musical director for James Taylor. |

Chick Corea©Bob Barry/jazzography.com An unbelievable musical experience in jazz music was seeing and hearing piano and bass masters, Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, perform with their trio at Catalina’s on April 10th. A surprise and delight to the sell-out audience was an appearance of their longtime friend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, opening the show and announcing these stellar musicians. The trio also included drummer Marcus Gilmore, who is grandson of famous drummer Roy Haynes. Guest artist, flautist Hubert Laws, also performed as a special addition during the mid-week gig of their six-day run at Catalina’s. |
